It’s not like people don’t do good deeds for me, by the way. It happens all the time. Tonight was an example of something small that made me smile all the way home. You just have to pay attention.
It was a perfect night in New York City — end(ish) of summer, a tiny breeze, no humidity. I’d been out with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time, having a belated birthday/early book publication celebratory dinner. So I was already having a ball. But on my way home, I got off the subway and the conductor leaned out the window, gave me a big smile, winked, and blew me a kiss.
